Haven’t seen this in a very long time! Initial thoughts: why is this movie so dimly lit? I know Miike was intentionally poking fun at what J-horror had become but I still don’t understand why the girls keep their phones. Why not completely go without phones? Maybe there’s an explanation somewhere in the story.
I really dig the movie and despite Miike goofing on the subgenre it was success bc he used cellphones as the delivery mechanism at a time when an entire generation became reliant on using them. The story resonated in a way he probably didn’t anticipate but was grateful nevertheless bc it allowed him more freedom to do the weird shit he wanted to to do.
Half the cast is missing from TMDb. :-/
