Viewing Notes

I like this movie and the mystery and the characters altho George Raft is too rigid for this story. A little bit a gristle that could be trimmed as it’s rather long for this type of film noir. 75min or 80min max to tell this story but plenty of fluff scenes that aren’t needed (joe’s mom, Mabel Page, making him breakfast, for example: “a milk drinking mamma’s boy” - Eddie Muller).

I dunno if this one has been remade but it would make for a great film done today but a throwback to the forties, a la Nightmare Alley. Then it would make sense to go long on the beautiful Los Angeles mid century scenery and nightlife.
