Thought I had logged this but I guess the last time I viewed it was before the logging began. Originally rented the DVD from Tensuke Market. Didn’t have subtitles. Later found a DVD release with English subs but hadn’t watched it until now. This is a weird bootleg that is a complete copy of the Tokyo Shock release including all the extras.
The movie is a wild ride. Love all the weird character designs and period goth Lolita look. Imagery and story has some obvious nods to famous properties like Lone Wolf & Cub and Django. In a way it’s kinda like the movie I wanna make, a pastiche of many cinematic things I love.
There’s an interview with TAK that I love more than the movie. He’s young and cocky and eating some snacks while he provides these silly answers. He’s buddies with the director and went on to make more films together.
The PQ on the DVD is garbage so I ordered a used Blu-ray that hopefully will look much better. If so maybe this will be a movie night pick. It’s a fun goofy movie ideal for that.
