Viewing Notes

Not sure if this my first Sandelwood flick but if it is this is a p good way to start with a Kannada movie (altho I think the version on Prime is Malayalam language). The plotting is still overwrought and the action is hyper-edited but it’s a favorite premise of Indian cinema: the rags to riches hero journey. I’ve seen many of these stories from Indian films, in fact, just this year (the fun Akshay Kumar flick). In this case it’s a boy from the Bombay ghetto that rises to become a bigtime Don who sets his sights on bigger criminal ambitions with the Kolar Gold Fields. So he goes undercover as a slave to take it from the inside, which is the primary crux of the story.

Yash is really great as the protag Rocky. Exudes charisma and the camera loves him and his poses. Srinidhi Shetty is a beauty queen so she already is a great screen presence plus her character is fiery and a good counter for Rocky’s coolness. I really wish the action was presented better bc there’s a lot to like in this movie. Apparently this was the number one grossing Sandelwood / Kannada language movie in India (until its sequel was released this year).

Now I’m set to see the sequel in theater tomorrow!
