Viewing Notes

Watched this when I got home from my long drive back from ABQ. Was only an hour or so which was ideal given the late night timing. Not a big fan of JP occupation films set during this period and this one was actually made at the time this was happening. But oddly this is less propaganda like many of the films made during the war and more just drama around Wong’s character.

What is more fascinating is the story behind making this movie and what happened to Wong afterwards; essentially she was blacklisted bc she was Asian and the country was at war with Japan. She wouldn’t be in another film until 1949, seven years later. I need to track down a book about her life.
