Pretty happy to see yet another new Akshay Kumar flick in theater this year. Here’s to many more given how many projects he’s involved in now.
This is an epic period political thriller / drama + romance with some cool battlefield stratagem. I prefer Akshay in more comedy type of roles bc he’s got great physicality and expressions. Here he truly looks like a 21st Century man dropped into the 16th Century. Esp. his clean cut hairstyle. Also there is no comedy in this story. It is a full on serious epic with other rulers wanting to take down the king. But it is an entertaining movie that seems a bit revisionist in how it wants to shed light on equality between men and women, which I really don’t believe was happening 600+ years ago.
I didn’t realize that this was lead actress Manushi Chhillar first feature film. She’s great! Would have never suspected she was new to this esp given the gravity of her character (she’s the defiant daughter of a ruler that goes against his wishes to marry the king and sets off a series of conflicts). She should get a lot of work after this movie.
