Viewing Notes

If this was aimed at adults then it would be a absurdist comedy but it’s meant to be a family flick geared towards children (despite some very adult themes). No thanks to the lack of description via TMDb this is one movie in a series of films by this comedy duo yet in this film they are rivals in 1862 Kyoto fighting over a young woman until they all get abducted by an alien and taken into space. It’s really corny stuff with much of the humor for its intended young Japanese audience. So not really for me as I’m not a big fan of physical comedy (unless it’s Jackie Chan / Sammo Hung). Just a little too cornball and goofy for my tastes.

This was programmed by DKUTV for their tribute to the Godzilla Champion Festival events from the early 1970s. During those festivals they screened re-edited Godzilla movies and family flicks for children.
