Viewing Notes

We’ve reached the point in this Predator films revisit where I’ve only seen these movies once. Didn’t remember a whole lot about this one but this is a very frustrating viewing. I love the Predator and Xenomorph designs so much but this movie prefers to hide them rather than highlight them.

The image is very dark, usually dark like it’s a mistake or something**. Very annoying. Turning up the brightness on my OLED doesn’t really help. I hate that we can’t see much of what is happening.

Holy crap I just the description; this is set in a real town in Colorado! Totally thought it was the Pacific Northwest*.

There are some things I do appreciate like how mean and violent it is via the unrated version. Then there are other things (like the murkiness) and story beats that are beyond annoying. Like it’s so dumb to have the Predator string up one of deputies when he first lands; he’s not there to hunt them nor was that deputy a threat. It’s like entirely misunderstanding the creature and shows a lack of respect to why the Predator is an all time great cinema monster. Ugh I’m mad about this now.

* lol it was shot in British Columbia, which what I suspected.

** first piece of trivia on IMDB indicates this was intentional and was criticized for it. This aggravates me bc the first movie, a fucking classic, was shot almost entirely in the daylight. This cinematographer is a dipshit.
