Got home from Telluride just before this started so it was good timing. I’ve seen this before but wanted to revisit. It’s p goofy but I love the big kaiju battle. Plus it has my boy Ryuki Kitaoka in a fun role as well as Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi in small roles. It’s like a bunch a friends making a movie. Hiroko Sakurai is in this and I wouldn’t have recognized her the first time I saw this. Met her literally 4 months after my first viewing of this movie (she portrays Akiko Fuji in the OG Ultraman series and has an action figure based on that character). Cool to see her still acting.
DKU also played the BTS making-of extra from the DVD that has director Tomoo Haraguchi talking about making an old school kaiju film. I may just buy this DVD if it’s still cheap.
