Found this DVD today when I was looking thru one of my boxes. Forgot that I owned this Woo-ping title and of course I’m always jonesing for more Woo-ping plus it stars Brigitte Lin and Max Mok, who bumped up to lead guy after his run in the Once Upon a Time in China series. He’s capable here but still overshadowed by Lin, who once again does the whole double identity thing. She made a career out it and good for her. Insane to me that she retired after this movie. I’m sure there’s plenty to that decision but all the pyro and fire work she’s doing and involved in here probably weighed in that, “yo I’m not putting myself in danger anymore… so F this!” I’d love to read her autobiography if it’s been translated to English.
The pyro and fire stunts are crazy as expected with Woo-ping at the helm. Honestly don’t know how ppl didn’t die on these sets.. or maybe they did and we just don’t know. The MVP for me is Elsie Yeh who manages to rise to Lin’s level here and looks great in the battle sequences.
Goes w/o saying but I’ll say it anyways, this is yet another excellent title that needs a restoration and new release treatment. Just the combo of Woo-ping and Brigitte Lin should be enough to greenlight this movie. Oh it also has Sandra Ng, too! Damn, get on it, Eureka or 88.
