Viewing Notes

DKUTV is running a Mie Hama marathon all weekend to celebrate her 79th birthday. I’ve seen all the other films in the program but this one bc it hasn’t been available with subtitles. This the first time Josef has scheduled it and I’ve been wanting to see this ever since viewing Wood Allen’s What’s Up Tiger Lily, which uses footage from Key of Keys for a spy spoof.

Good news: glad to finally see this film which has fun roles for both Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayashi, who looks amazing. Bad news: this is not a very good movie for riding the the secret agent wave of the sixties. It’s fine just nothing special. I give it a point bump for giving the women something to do here and looking fabulous.
