Meant to get to this one last month for 31 Days of Horror since I haven’t seen this yet. I viewed it now since I’m doing a Paul Naschy project this year. I’ve owned this one since around the time Mondo Macabro released but ~2hr length kept me from just spinning it up (note: Naschy’s other werewolf Daninsky flicks are ~90min or less). Perhaps since he was directing he didn’t want to cut anything. Which is weird bc a whole lot of this is rather dull and unneeded background and exposition before the movie gets interesting. Trim 20min from this and I bet it works better and becomes more effective getting to the samurai vs werewolf showdown.
I’ll give it another spin someday when I’m not so tired, and knowing what it expect it may improve but as of now this is my least favorite of the werewolf Daninsky films.
TMDb updated per my edit: Just noticed the runtime listed here and that’s incorrect and likely the edited release from back in the day. This Mondo Macabro release is 115 minutes. Just updated TMDb.
