Viewing Notes

Another long overdue revisit, which is a big reason why I’m doing this Jet Li project— so many of his films I’ve hadn’t seen in ages, over a decade for most many over two decades. This movie I haven’t see. Since we watched it in theater (Shannon and I) over at Village Crossing.

What’s neat about rewatching it now after I’ve seen 20+ Jet Li films this year is to see Li’s life in this character. He even says as much during the interview in the extras. He also says this is his last wushu film bc it’s a culmination of everything he’s done and he has nothing left to say or prove. Of course this wouldn’t hold to be true as he starred a few other wushu type films but not much.

This is a good movie and a rather poignant one if you overlay it onto Li’s career. Yuen Woo-ping was the action supervisor so keeping that theme going. Was nice to hear Li talk about their relationship over the years.

Next time I’ll have to spin up the directors cut which is 25 minutes longer.
