Decided to keep the Milla train rolling with another mid-tier actioner that I haven’t seen since the theater. Have this on DVD but figured the Hulu stream would be in HD and I was correct. It looks good for a movie that mostly does not look good. The digital smoothing to produce the comic book effect is distracting. I forgot all about that along w/much of this movie so it was a good revisit. Milla is terrific as the badass vampire with a heart. This is Wimmer’s Matrix crossed with Resident Evil w/a splash of his own dystopian Equilibrium gun-kata.
I like this movie but it’s not a very good movie. The stakes (no pun intended) don’t feel all that major bc they really don’t table set the world very well. Like who cares about any of this? It’s just a vehicle to see Milla look amazing and kick ass. And I’m fine with that, I guess. But she deserved better.
