Overview

Viewing Notes
I dunno if this is better than the previous film but there’s a whole lotta movie up there on screen. Since I knew nothing about this going in I was confused at first thinking they just made another movie with a similar premise. Thought that was weird until I realized this was a prequel. Very wild way to go about it but whatever.
The opening action sequence is great but nothing that comes after lives up to that. But I did like the drama and interactions plus having Andy Lau gives this story a little more gravitas. Was way too tired to watch this on a Monday evening but enough cool stuff and amusing dialogue kept me awake. Also nice to watch in a fairly packed IMAX theater with mostly Chinese attendees who laughed in all the right places.
There’s a fun music cue that borrows from EVANGELION that follows a line of dialogue about whether the Yaya AI will be the devil or an Angel. Very on the nose but probably not intentional. I appreciated it tho.
