I know Yugo Sakamoto had four movies with 2021 release dates but this one feels like it was made pre-pandemic as I can’t imagine it was made in 2020 during the pandemic. It’s possible, I suppose but given how locked Japan was in 2020 I doubt it. This is also a movie that is that kind of low budget affair that lands you a BABY ASSASSINS deal (bigger budget and better everything else).
YDV looks like it cost $5000 to make, if that. Not a bad thing, esp. for a homage to V-Cinema. And we all know the story of ONE CUT OF THE DEAD. This is not that but it has its moments. I’m glad it hit Screambox so I didn’t have to wait for a physical release bc it was on my watchlist ever since Baby Assassins hit. I dunno if I’d buy this… it’s just over an hour long and it’s a very much one and done kind of thing. Depends on the release and if it comes with Sakamoto’s other films or shorts.
I did think a lot about Tak Sakaguchi in that I wish he was still making crazy low budget movies like this.
