Viewing Notes

Ain’t bad but feels more like a movie made for Netflix. Probably would do better streaming, too. As it was I got a private screening. Was hoping this would be closer to the chapter from the book Hit Men about the crazy days as Casablanca Records struggled during the seventies until they broke artists like Donna Summer, KISS and others. Also plays a little loose with that history and leaves out much of the debauchery and skeevy tales behind the scenes.

Weird they secured the use of the KISS logo but nothing else. No likeness or actual songs by the band (only covers). I’d bet a hundred bucks that Gene Simmons wanted a shit ton on money to use their likeness and songs. Kinda odd since this is literally about their history as a band succeeding against all odds. Lost opportunity. Or maybe Gene read the script and knew the film would only be mediocre.

One positive upside to viewing this mostly lackluster biopic is wanting to hear more music from that time esp. all the Donna Summer tunes which I added to my Apple Music after the movie was done.
