South African enfant terrible filmmaker and artiste-cineaste Manus Oosthuizen meets with Rotten Tomatoes-approved indie film critic Babette Cruickshank in an Echo Park sound studio. With key members of Manus’s crew joining, they record an audio commentary track for his new elegiac feature documentary Razzennest. But the session goes down a different path… cazzart! The ultimate elevation of arthouse horror, just not as you might expect.

Interesting experiment for a film that seems like a loose homage to the Director’s Commentary: Terror Of Frankenstein I experienced at Stanley Film Fest w/Leon Vitali. The premise being that the viewer is hearing a film commentary that eventually goes off the rails. In this case, it’s a horror or supernatural interference. There are plenty of cringe moments in that first third or so (all the name drops and whatnot) but also some LOL moments as the horror element comes to play.
The movie imagery is gorgeous, too. Just wish the visuals told a story rather than just being cool to look at. If it told a story I didn’t get that.
