My Radiance Films release arrived today so gave it a spin. I believe I own* this on DVD from back in the day but this release is very sharp. I LOVE Fukasaku’s chaotic handheld filming in the seventies. So much energy captured that is palpable in the viewing. Was worried that Meiko Kaji was gonna have a shitty bit part but she’s a main character here and is stunning as ever in a few sequences.
Tetsuya Watari is terrific as the primary character. So different and grizzled from his Tokyo Drifter role which I just revisited recently. Yet still charismatic as ever and iconic w/those aviator sunglasses.
*apparently just have a copy from a Netflix rental according to my previous log of this film.
