With so much Fast & Furious in my eyes recently I decided to finally give this a spin. Also, it’s gotten a few S/O in my TL. Didn’t realize it was a spoof on the F&F franchise (what little there was of said franchise in 2004) but yeah it a motorcycle equivalent where they poke fun at cars street racing (it opens w/a biker outracing two cars). Some tongue in cheek material both visually and in the dialogue.
Unfortunately, this is not a good movie. The story isn’t good and made worse by some exaggerated acting and scripting and JKahn’s obsession w/making a feature length music video. If Kahn had written the movie it may have turned a little better to fit his MV style. The hyper-stylized action and editing is just too comical and silly to match the very low to mid story of these modern biker gangs.
I give it a 5 out of 10 bc I am impressed with what they were able to accomplish in the VFX dept back in 2003-04, way before the advances we’ve seen since. And sometimes that MV approach is amusing even tho it is overwrought for a feature length film. Even if I didn’t know Kahn was the director I would still guess that music video director was behind the camera.
Casting Adam Scott as the FBI Agent in charge was a choice. Doesn’t fit that role at all and his overacting is awful. Had they leaned into the spoof comedy elements more it might have worked. Same with all the motorcycle battles. Just looks too goofy when they’re trying to play it serious.
