Wow this is not a good movie. But I wanted to watch something light after The Wind Rises and this has Jason Statham in the cast. What I didn’t know is that he’s barely in this in a non-speaking role. So that sucks but a little bonus is Scott Adkins appearing out of nowhere as a soccer player and me totally doing the Rick Dalton pointing at the screen. It’s almost a blink and you’ll miss him moment and my mind was blown.
So I give this a half point bump for bringing my two dudes together in a scene. Another half point bump for casting Beyonce and giving some dialogue and decent scenes. But yikes most of this humor does not land at all mostly from Steve Martin as Clouseau, which is surprising. It makes Alan Arkin’s Clouseau that much better (recently just watched his take on this character).
Seriously. Shocked at how bad this movie is and I think they made a sequel and I may have seen it! Jean Reno is a good sport here but Kevin Kline is wasted playing the straight guy to Martin’s comedy. Just a bizarre movie that somehow was in theaters.
