Viewing Notes

Watching Tsukamoto’s films chronologically is interesting bc you can see how his filmmaking evolved and improved (in some cases). This one is a huge leap from his previous work both in tone and visually esp. the color palette (in that it has colors and vibrant colors at that). Some excellent framing as well. Also, he’s stepped up his casting by not having himself as the lead character. tbh I don’t think he could’ve pulled this one off nearly as well as Masahiro Motoki. But there are some fun cameos in this.
