RIP William Friedkin
August 25, 1935 — August 7, 2023
We lost one of the greats. Was too stressed out to view The Exorcist or Sorcerer so I pulled up this made-for-NBC tv movie on YouTube. When Friedkin would talk about his failures he’s gotta be referring to stuff like this. This is not good and it’s nuts that he directed it. Best guess is that he had a lot of constraints working for a television studio that forced him into making a rather dull “action thriller” that also looks dull (lots of beige).
There’s a couple flourishes but most of the time this follows this squad as they do a very bad job protecting scientists from getting murdered. Strangely enough I own the sequel Python Wolf on VHS, which he also directed.
