aka LAST SUSPECT
Always excited to see Kara Wai on the big screen. Soft 7 out of ten for keeping me engaged despite seventeen endings to this madness. Plus it’s a murder mystery! Def playing to the audience (me in November).
Love that they use the same tropical fake city “Kuapuar City” from LOST IN THE STARS, which is also overly complicated as this movie. Hope this fake city continues to appear in Chinese films where they want you to think they filmed outside the mainland.
They stuff a lot of things into this including things that serve no purpose like the brother’s alcohol problem that just never goes anywhere. The entire time I kept thinking how incredibly fit he is chasing bad guys and fighting while drinking booze all day. He’s still p cool and looks like my friend Sanjoe.
The courtroom drama had me LOL and fist pumping even tho it’s not nearly as sharp or impactful as Anatomy of a Fall. Seems like it wants to be but it’s really very different and fuck that police chief father regardless.
Anyways it was cool to see another Chinese film on the big screen and one set in Kuapuar City!
