Viewing Notes

Fun revisit for Moarvember Mysteries (the mystery here is whether his gf/wife is a notorious black widow offing her husbands as the film title indicates ;-). Saw this originally in theater in downtown Sycamore, IL in their single screen theater w/my gf at the time. We loved it and always wondered why it wasn’t more beloved. Esp. with that alt.rock soundtrack that I obsessed over at the time. Since then I watched this a bunch but probably not once since 2000. Forgot this was set in San Francisco, which I probably wouldn’t remember having not been there yet as an adult. So wild they go to Alcatraz for a tour… as residents of SF why would they do it (ofc it’s good for the movie “see, we are in San Francisco!”). All the on-location shooting is great.

Watching this now I can understand why this wasn’t the hit I thought it would be. Myers’ humor is either gonna work or be totally cringe. Ofc he’s like a prototype Scott Pilgrim in that he’s kind of an asshole and blaming women for his own insecurities. Def a movie stuck in a precise time of its production.
