The advertising breaks on Hulu have gotten worse. Just awful.
Anyways this is one of the new Nic Cage films that I didn’t see in theater and now I know why. It’s not good. A very DTV kind of movie, which isn’t a bad thing but feels and looks cheap. The digital gloss doesn’t look good especially for a western. All the acting is average at best including Cage. Wasn’t sure if he was channeling Bela Lugosi or Clint Eastwood.
The story is a hodgepodge of many other films, westerns and chanbara. I mean, badass gunfighter saddled with a kid. Where have you heard that before. Reminded me of my favorite Louis Lamour book, Riley’s Luck. Anyways, there’s not an original bone in this nor good acting or production values (it’s obvious they use the same town set for all the towns).
And yet… I dug it. I think I’m just a sucker for that Lone Wolf & Cub / Mandalorian story. They put the wilhelm scream in this and it’s so fucking stupid.
