While the Second World War rages, the teenage Mahito, haunted by his mother’s tragic death, is relocated from Tokyo to the serene rural home of his new stepmother Natsuko, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to the boy’s mother. As he tries to adjust, this strange new world grows even stranger following the appearance of a persistent gray heron, who perplexes and bedevils Mahito, dubbing him the “long-awaited one.”

First in theater movie of 2024 and a soldout screening no less. surprised by that but neat to see 3 weeks after release. Did the English dub bc I heard so many good things about it. It’s very good. Only recognized Wilhem Dafoe (perfect as the dying pelican) and Dave Bautista (not a good choice for the parakeet king). Already knew Pattinson was the heron but it’s a very stylized voice he’s doing, which is weird to cast him then. Sad I didn’t recognize Pugh’s voice
