The trademark of The Phantom, a renowned jewel thief, is a glove left at the scene of the crime. Viewing Notes

Finally gave this a spin and can say fairly confidently that I did not see this particular film when I was a child. I did watch Pink Panther movies but I believe they were sequels and not the original. None of this movie seemed remotely familiar and Inspector Clouseau only dons his trademark overcoat once in a very brief scene. I will watch the sequels to confirm but certain this was a first time viewing for me. That said, had I known Claudia Cardinale was one of the main actors I would’ve moved this up the pile. She’s great, as usual.

Oddly the comedy doesn’t work itself into the movie until around the midpoint then it’s full on slapstick with an outrageous finale. I was too sleepy to care by then bc this is a long movie and tbh longer than it needs to be for this kind of goofy screwball humor. Also having David Niven as one of the leads doesn’t help (I don’t like him). babyface Robert Wagner is fun and I like Capucine as Clouseau’s adulteress wife. All the on-location filming is terrific as well.
