Viewing Notes

Been wanting to revisit for a long time so I was v happy to find this for a buck at my library. Saw this on release back in Rockford (went with my buddy Jared as usual). Our main interest was that we knew Guns N Roses were in the movie (and “Welcome to the Jungle” is in film as well). Probably watched this one other time after that but it’s easily been 25+ years since I last saw this.

Forgot this is another Dirty Harry sequel. When it opens with the San Francisco skyline I was like “oooooh shit Dirty Harry is back.” I didn’t remember most of this other than the funeral scene with the entire GNR band in attendance and the insane remote control car sequence. So this was another Very Good Revisit.

The movie is not great but highly entertaining for Callahan’s shoot first approach, which made me wonder why this character isn’t the poster child for MAGA. Callahan is just blowing away dudes with his .44 like no big deal. All the on location filming is terrific even tho I’m not fond of how this was shot with the medium to close up shots over wider shots. For example I know where the Chinatown scene is happening but you can’t tell from what they show in the movie.

Lastly worth noting it is crazy to see both Liam Neeson and Jim Carrey (James Carrey in the credits) share a scene together before they both broke it big. Wish Axl and Slash were given at least one line of dialogue!
