Overview

John Carter is a war-weary, former military captain who’s inexplicably transported to the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars) and reluctantly becomes embroiled in an epic conflict. It’s a world on the brink of collapse, and Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Knew I would love this even more now. Totally plays into all the things I love about outer space sword & sandals flicks. Not that there’s a lot but this is up there. Still bummed this failed at the box office and that crummy name didn’t help (which is weird when the film ends with the title “John Carter of Mars”—why didn’t they just go with that??). This is just a fun movie that has neat little moments throughout. Plus that dog is just the best and Dejah (Lynn Collins) is a great princess of Mars. Love the voice acting by Willem Dafoe and Samantha Morton.
