Jesse Stone is a former L.A. homicide detective who left behind the big city and an ex-wife to become the police chief of the quiet New England fishing town of Paradise. Stone’s old habits die hard as he continues to indulge his two favorite things: Scotch whiskey and women. After a series of murders—the first ever in Paradise—and a high school girl is raped, he’s forced to face his own demons in order to solve the crimes.

Been skipping past these Tom Selleck Jesse Stone flicks for a while thinking they wouldn’t be v good but since I’ve been watching a lot of made-for-tv Hallmark mystery series I figured these couldn’t be any worse. Boy am I a dummy! This tv movie goes hard and has a killer cast to boot. Not a Hallmark movie but close enough as this Sony production for CBS films was shot in Canada but set in Massachusetts.
Selleck plays Stone perfectly and has the women after him. Even Mimi Rogers as the sexy lawyer shows up to seduce him. Pretty sure Selleck is meant to be younger as Stone but it’s obvious his gf Abby is way younger than him (28y age difference in RL). Who doesn’t love the chiseled police chief of the small New England town.
Sadly this isn’t a murder mystery as the killer is revealed early on so it works more like a Colombo story. Stone also deals with the super sensitive gang rape of a teenage girl with Viola Davis in support. Overall impressed (there’s even a gd sex scene but no nudity natch) with this tv movie and will watch the rest of them.
