aka HONG KIL-DONG (the actual title)
DKUTV kicked off the new year with a celebration of Kenpachiro Satsuma, the suit actor who recently passed during DKUTV’s brief hiatus. Of the eighteen films programmed this was one I had not seen. It’s a North Korean production back when they were kidnapping Japanese filmmakers. Sounded interesting so I sat for it.
This is exactly as if North Korea made a Shaw Brothers kung fu movie. Has most of all the correct pieces but never really comes together. Every aspect is lacking. Early on there’s a cool sequence where the old master rescues Hong Kil-Dong and his mother. It’s promising and I was expecting the rest of the movie to deliver that kind of action. It doesn’t.
It’s rather bland like a shell of a Shaw Brothers movie. Reminded me a lot of the Brave Archer series but not as good. No clue as to who Kenpachiro portrays in this movie. It’s mostly Korean actors.
