Viewing Notes

Was reminded of this film again via my TL and realized I still had not watched it. Fixed that tonight. Wonderful movie with our leading man Jirocho (Akira Kobayashi) as the hero, be it fighting gangsters or saving relationships. Super fun with lots of neat on location filming around Ginza.

The backlot studio sets are amusing especially when they cut to an actual street in Tokyo. One subplot is a takeover of a bathhouse, which is rejected thx to Jiro. But it would’ve had a huge impact given the exponential increase of land value. Today a square foot of real estate on the main Ginza street is the most expensive in all of Tokyo.

Oh babyface Ruriko Asaoka is so damn cute. Very handsome couple. Always surprised when watching a traditional western wedding in Japan. This one is hilarious in how things play out.
