Saw this on sale at Best Buy but since the reviews were bad I decided to watch it on Tubi to see if was worth buying (note: I’ll watch anything with Frank Grillo). The reviews stating this is the worst movie ever are incorrect. But this is not a good movie despite the familiar premise.
Grillo hires a bunch of assassins to take him on one by one to test his mettle as the “king of killers” the A-number1 hitman. But it takes a while to get to the real omaction and then it’s filmed so dark you can’t see what is happening.
It’s directed by Kevin Grevioux, who also stars as one of the assassins. I always think of him as one of the werewolves in Underworld bc of his size and deep voice. Not sure if he’s cut out to be a director but he tried. The lighting is bad but also some of the story. Why is this set in Tokyo? There’s no reason to especially when none of it is actually being filmed there (the insides of those buildings would not look like that in Tokyo). Just stay in Canada! Christ, shoot in Montreal if you wanna move to a more metropolitan area.
Anyways, this isn’t the worst thing but plenty of little improvements could’ve made this a fun flick a la The Tournament. Just kinda goofy table setting for a lackluster payoff. Does make me smile that Grillo will pretty much take any role and just be the same character he always is.
