Viewing Notes

As I’ve noted, I’ll watch anything starring (or featuring) Frank Grillo. I love the guy and that he plays basically the same character in all his films (the Statham Effect). When this title was released the #ActionTwitter crowd were raving about it so I had it on my radar. Tonight I saw it popped up on Hoopla so hell yeah I hit that “borrow” button.

Sadly the middling ratings I’ve seen around (IMDb) are true. This is not the “lights out” flick hyped up by #ActionTwitter (to be fair, they hype a lot of films that are average at best but may contain a great action sequence or two). It is a very run of the mill DTV action thriller that puts Grillo in the center, which is cool, but doesn’t give him a lot to do other than have PTSD flashbacks and easily beat dudes to a pulp. They throw a lot of characters into this to give a sense that there’s some meat on the bone when really there’s not a whole lot there other than some silly posturing.

And I’ve said here before but pls do not cast Juju Chan in your film and give her nothing to do. Fucking drives me crazy bc she’s so awesome and deserves better. Granted, she needs the paycheck but at least let her kick some ass. I really don’t want to mention Adkins bc that was some DTV stunt casting if there ever was such a thing.

Overall, this is merely average and moves quickly but leaves you hungry for more given what these guys can do.

Oh shit this has a 70 at TMDb so maybe I’m wrong! I’d give it another go later on maybe if it gets a physical media release.
