Viewing Notes

the alt.title of “Stolen Sword” probably makes more sense as this is a loose adaptation of the novel by Du Lu Wang “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and it’s really good. Already being familiar with the story it was interesting to see the same or similar story beats as they play out. Li Li-Hua is excellent in the Jade Fox role altho here she’s not the villain that Fox is in CTHD. Li Ching is the princess getting secret guidance and she’s great as well.

Overall a fun movie that oddly doesn’t really have an ending so I’m wondering there is a sequel to this or they were like, “nah we’re good.” THE SWORD OF SWORDS from the following year could be a spiritual sequel I suppose even tho Li Ching is a different character in that movie.

Babyface Ku Feng as a small supporting role but he’s fun to see here. I did recognize Wu Ma as one of the supporting soldiers plus he gets one line towards the end!
