Viewing Notes

Damn. This is a really good onna tobakushi eiga (lady gambler movie) within the ninkyo eiga subgenre. On the Female Yakuza Tale dvd there is an essay about these films and this one was included. Found it in 3 parts on DailyMotion. Def a movie that needs a good release, probably from Arrow or Eureka since they’re doing the Peony series.

This is like a Meiji period “girl power” flick with Eiko Nakamura in the lead role. She’s wonderful. All the young women around her are also very good. Fun to see Reiko Ike again but in a much smaller role.
