Back at Orchard after a long time away! Learned why they haven’t offered IMAX showings for the last few months (under renovation).
Anyways yeah this movie didn’t work for me. Dug the premise and reengineered approach to doing a Friday the 13th style slasher but after the first third I just wasn’t into it and found it a tad dull. Had me thinking of the very good fan films Never Hike Alone and how those really nail the aesthetic and spirit of this kind of rural forest slasher.
Ofc I understand the filmmakers were going for something different here but I don’t think it succeeded. However, lots of folks seem to really dig the film so maybe I’m wrong. For me I think it would’ve worked better as a short film. I do give it a half point bump for *that* kill of an awful shitty character.
