Viewing Notes

I like this giant snake movie! Obv it’s far from being a “good” movie but it scratches that itch and I generally like this giant animal films when they put some effort into the story and characters (having decent CGI helps a lot, too). The one major negative is the same tired, retread plot of wanting an rare fruit/plant that will cure cancer or something. I think it’s a “fountain of youth” thing in this movie but it’s the most overused premise for visiting these islands with giant snakes in the Chinese movies I’ve seen (and plenty of non-Chinese as well).

Why I like this movie more than others is that it offers a little more in the way of creatures. There’s a flying piranha attack and man-eating plants that look like Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors. And then the giant snakes are awesome. Plus there’s a badass woman warrior who isn’t listed in TMDb but she rocks and I wanna see a movie with her leading a team of explorers.

If this movie had a good Blu-ray release (they should put all three films on 1 disc), I would snap it up. But it needs the original Mandarin language bc the English dub isn’t v good. The BTS footage in the credits is great. Love seeing that stuff.
