Overview

A fortuneteller prophesizes that whoever marries the beautiful Ukio will become the ruler of the world. Naturally, this makes her very popular with those vying for power, particularly the insatiably greedy Lord Donjo. Only the ninja Jotaro can stop Donjo’s plan, but to do so, he must first battle the deadly team of “Devil Monks” serving the lord. Will Jotaro succeed in his mission? And if so, will Ukio marry him, thus making him the ruler of the world?

Programmed for the Akira Nakao tribute marathon. Didn’t want to miss it bc I hadn’t seen it and it has a great cast including Hiroyuki Sanada in the lead role. Oddly enough, Nakao is uncredited despite having the second biggest role in the film (I added him to TMDb). Sonny Chiba has a fun supporting role and I wondered if this movie was part of any of recent sets of his films. This would be a good one to own.

Because the women portray multiple characters the movie is a tad confusing at times which is why I’d like to own it. You have to pay attention when they start switching characters plus they all look intentionally very similar. Best way to describe this movie is that it’s a live action anime with the villainous five monks and spurting blood.

I was impressed with this huge temple set that gets destroyed in a massive battle. Lots of cool stuff in this plus bushy haired babyface Sanada doing his own stunts.
