Viewing Notes

Where Anime Supremacy! is a serious take on the anime production industry, KIBA is a serious take on the serial magazine publishing industry, which is a much bigger industry in Japan (weekly publications are huge). And a similar premise where two mags are competing against each other. Knowing this would be serious it was easier to get into it (compared to the serious look at the anime industry). Overall, this is pretty good shining a light at how cutthroat it is even for competing mags under the same corporate roof.

There’s a whole weird stalker subplot with Elaiza Ikeda’s Saki character, who is the most interesting of the bunch (she’s into guns and writes under a pen name while being a fulltime model). Awesome to see Shinya Tsukamoto pop up here as the protag’s father. He’s terrific as usual in a small role. Jun Kunimura is typically great and a scene stealer. I’d love to have one of those Trinity Magazine posters w/Ikeda’s face on it. Looks like they produced a ton of them. Wonder if they just tossed them in the garbage afterwards.
