Third and sadly the last movie for my birthday movie night. Due to my conflicting event there wasn’t enough time to do any more films and I was dead exhausted from the long day. Ah well.
This one fulfils my favorite childhood film.
Hadn’t seen this in a long time but thought I had logged it previously. I had not so it was perfect for this occasion. Have always carried a fondness for this movie bc it scared the shit out of me when I was a child, to the point I would have nightmares. Upon this revisit, I realized that it’s only one scene in particular (the missionaries) that really got to me. The other thing that worked on my psyche was all the serious talk by David Warner’s character about how dangerous these vampire bats were, pure evil.
Warner really elevates the movie for me, above the corniness of the bat attacks. He’s so good and so deadly sincere in his delivery. This is not the bad movie it has been painted as over the years. It’s got a solid take on native american mysticism and folklore. Shot on location in the southwest. Good acting all around and a decent drama about exploitation of the reservation and sacred ground.
