Overview

Set in Hong Kong and Vancouver, the story follows Mac Ramsey and Li Ann Tsei, lovers and professional thieves who are separated while fleeing the powerful Hong Kong underworld crime lord who raised and trained them. After being imprisoned in Hong Kong, Mac is forcefully recruited into a clandestine international crime-fighting unit by a hard-nosed, menacing Director. He is teamed in Vancouver with Li Ann, who thought Mac was dead, and her new fiancĂ© Victor Mansfield, an ex-cop who is attracted to the unorthodox methods of the agency. Conflict flares between Mac and Victor as the trio take on their assignment. They soon learn that their principal target is their foster brother Michael Tang, who had been given Li Ann as his future wife and who has vowed to hunt down the pair for their disloyalty to the “family”.

Viewing Notes

John Woo remade his own movie which serves as a pilot for the tv series. There are two additional tv movie installments with the same cast. This is all news to me as I really had no idea this all existed ‘cept for the initial remake of the film by Woo himself.

Firstly, I love this tv movie. I love Sandrine Holt and it was great to her in the middle of this love quadrangle, which is hilarious on its own. ofc I love Michael Wong being his typical Michael Wong character. I love that instead of shooting in Vancouver and pretending it is somewhere else, they just set the movie in Vancouver. THANK YOU. Love the banter between characters, particularly Sergei and Lea, whom I both also really like as actors.

So this movie really caters to my tastes and incl. the nineties vibe of it all. I will have look for the next tv movie sequels esp. bc Victoria Pratt is in the series and shows up. This is another “set” that I wish got a good BD release, the movies and the tv series all in one nice package.
