Another sequel conquered for 31DoH and another one I’ve wanted to see for a long time but hasn’t been easy to watch (DVD is pricey and it’s never on streaming).
If this were a sequel to a different franchise or its own standalone movie, I’d probably like it a lot more. However, as part of the Urban Legend collection, it’s not good. The premise jettisons everything that is great about the first two (which emulate SCREAM, a reality based premise) for a supernatural curse a la FINAL DESTINATION. In fact, this kinda apes Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, but not nearly as good.
The movie looks good and Mary Lambert is a fine director but why they went this route is bewildering. Michael Dougherty of TRICK R TREAT fame was one of the writers and it feels like this was written outside of the UL franchise then wedged into when they needed an IP to hang it on.
