Started watching this during a halftime and finished it just before crashing for the night. This is one of the JFF Theater offerings for this period (changes every 3 months) and I meant to watch in December bc Christmas. However, this isn’t a Christmas movie but it is a very nice winter movie that feels like a nod to the old Rankin & Bass stopmo tv movies. For that reason I really enjoyed this along with the story of the snowman appearing only bc of the snow brought from the northern train.
The boy and the snowman do meet a character who they think is Santa Claus but that’s the only sorta reference to Christmas. Overall just a well-crafted tv movie that could’ve been made anywhere not necessarily in Japan.
