Back on my Frank Grillo train. Missed this one last year of the 5 new Grillo joints released. Was glad it popped up on Hoopla, as most of these do. With Florentine at the helm my expectations were high. Unfortunately this is only mildly good. And it’s missing an act. Oddly the second movie set and shot in Malta I’ve seen in the past two days.
Grillo is Grillo, just drop him in and he’s gonna do his thing, looking and acting exactly as he does in most of these actioners. I love that about him. Rhona Mitra is beautiful and gets a few action beats of her own. The first act is a flashback that sets up the current situation. The second act is the “getting the team together to do the thing” and the third act is doing the thing. Then it just ends. It’s odd because there feels like a missing “big finale” setpiece that never arrives. Sorta feels like they ran out of money.
And **SPOILER** that the final action beat doesn’t involve Grillo is just weird given he’s your lead guy. So not the best outing for this Florentine / Grillo collab but I like them both enough to give this a positive rating. Just needed a little more on the end.
