Maybe a third into this movie I was like “this feels like Michele Soavi lite” but it wasn’t until almost the end when I learned that Lamberto Bava directed this, which also makes sense! A lot of the Soavi vibes stems from having Tomas Arana as the lead detective.
Not a terrible film plus having Joanna Pacula helps but the zero mystery with the killer seems wrong. Like there’s no surprise or suspense. That works better in a standard slasher but here where it’s positioned as a mystery even though the audience is fully aware of the killer isn’t as effective. There is an odd reveal at the end but still doesn’t improve anything.
There is one clever kill involving a classroom that is pretty inventive.
