Burial Path (1978)

Directed by Stan Brakhage

Documentary | Experimental | Short

Overview

The film begins with the image of a dead bird. The mind moves to forget, as well as to remember: this film graphs the process of forgetfulness against all oddities of remembered bird-shape.

Viewing Notes

“A film by Stan Brakhage about the forgetfulness and death.”

After our short film convo I wanted to look up more of Stan Brakhage and his ties to Colorado. TIL he was raised in Denver and despite traveling around he also met his wife and started a family in Colorado. He “taught at the University of Colorado in Boulder off and on, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.” So that explains why they have a lot of his work. Need to ask Jason about this next time I attend IFS.

I didn’t realize that Brakhage had a collection in Criterion. Requested Brakhage: An Anthology Volume Two since that’s the only one they have. Guess they lost Volume One.
