Black Is (1965)

Directed by Aldo Tambellini

Experimental | Short

Overview

To the sound of a heartbeat and made entirely without the use of a camera, this film projects abstract forms and illuminations on a night-black background and suggests as Tambellini says, “seed black, seed black, sperm black, sperm black.”

Viewing Notes

Another in Tambellini’s “Black” series. After seeing one of these it feels like diminishing returns bc they are all so similar. The ideal presentation would be an installation at MCA / MoMA with multiple old CRT televisions each running one of these “Black” short films on a loop. In fact, when I was at MoMA PS1 in Queens a few years ago they had a similar installation for a experimental artist. Wish I could remember who that was.
