Viewing Notes

My (first) Crunchyroll order arrived with this 2-movie set of Goku: Midnight Eye I and II. This was the title that I said I was going to order after recently (a couple weeks ago) rewatching both on Prime. This is also the title that prompted me to order a bunch of other silly things from CR to get the free shipping. It’s a disease.

Anyways! Credit where credit is due: this Blu-ray looks fucking amazing. This is the best looking version of the movie I’ve seen, having watched back in the day on VHS and then to streaming. Discotek really knocked this one out of the park and I don’t know how they did it. So good job Discotek, a company I have slagged for their releases (ex. slapping the DVD transfer on a BD). But this one is dynamite and I’m super pleased to finally own this comfort watch gem.

This is also probably the first time I’ve seen the film with its original Japanese audio track. It’s fine. I prefer the English track bc that’s what I’m used to plus I love Steve Blum’s voice, which is perfect for this character. At this point I’m ready to place Yoshiaki Kawajiri in my top 3 or at least top 5 Japanese directors, which is nuts but gd do I love his work and wish he had produced more.
